Rejection Hurts

Rejection hurts. It eats at the core, tears you to pieces and can eliminate hope for a better future.

What happens when you are the one rejecting another? When it’s you that they look up to and believe you are their last hope but all you have to say is “sorry not right now” or “I am unable to help you at the moment.” The pain they walk away with has broken me more times than I can count.

Margaret and Emma organization has now become a beacon of hope to the women in Uganda who believed they were doomed to suffer with no way out. We are a ray of light to those young teenagers that have lost their way due to the darkness that surrounds them. We empower rural women to break free from the viscous cycle of poverty by training them in different income generating activities and financial literacy.

However, with limited funds, we are only able to help a few people at a time. We are overwhelmed by the needs of people especially the young women and teenage mothers in our community.

A few days back, a sixteen year old, pregnant teenager walked into our offices with her aunt after her parents had kicked her out of her home. Her aunt believed our organization would be able to teach her tailoring until so she might have a job before the baby comes. A few hours later , a mother walked in with her 18 year old daughter who dropped out of secondary school this year. The mother is hypertensive and diabetic and she recently lost her cleaning job because she called in sick too often, due to her illness. The daughter dropped out of school to help her mother take care of her younger siblings who are still in primary school.

To both cases, and countless others, I was forced to say “I am sorry I can’t help you now” as we don’t have the funding to help more women at this time. I was shattered because there is nothing I could do. We have a few sewing and knitting machines at our training center and we recently enrolled 10 young women with similar stories. We have a waiting list of women hoping to be able to train in future classes.

The need is enormous but our hands are tied. If there is a way you can help us support our cause, click HERE to learn more about how you can support vulnerable women.

Thank you for your continued support. Our work would not be possible without our incredible donors and volunteers.
