Project Funding
Margaret & Emma Uganda is constantly expanding. We will keep you updated about the funding of each project here. Our goal is transparency and honesty about our work, and how donations are used.
As we receive funding for specific projects, we will update the sections below to reflect allocated funds.
General donations are used for the most urgent needs of the organization.
If you have any questions, ideas for future projects, or have other suggestions, please contact us. We would love to hear your feedback.

Tailoring Center
The tailoring center is set up with 5 sewing machines and one knitting machine. This project had some big initial costs, but has huge potential to support our women's groups.
As the program grows, we will need to add machines so we can train more women at a time.
We still need funding for the ongoing training costs, and monthly maintenance. Below is the cost breakdown:
Fabric (20 sheets) - $80
Training Fees - $200
The monthly fee for trainers.
We expect to train our first group for 3-6 months.
Monthly Rent - $70
Other Monthly Costs - $100
Includes sewing machine maintenance, replacement needles and small supplies, etc.
Crafts Shop
The crafts shop is set up and has some products, and is being run by women's groups near headquarters.
The women's groups set their own prices, and sell directly to customers through our shop. We charge a small fee for groups to sell through the shop. This goes to pay rent and salaries.
Below is a list of monthly expenses and items that still need funding:
Monthly Rent - $70
Salaries - $200
Crafts - Variable

Bakery
We have shifted our focus to train groups in their communities, and help them to establish their own bakeries.
Our fundraising efforts for the bakery will go towards training, and purchasing supplies to establish a simple bakery for a rural community.
Training Salaries - $500
Includes a full training cycle, typically lasting 3 months, and transportation for the trainer.
Baking Ingredients & Supplies - $500
Includes baking equipment such as bowls, burners, and mixers that remain with the group after training.
Hair Salon
One of the skills our groups asked to learn is hair dressing. Because this is an expensive project, it will be the last of our four shops.
We plan to set up a salon, host training, then hire our trainees to run the shop. They will also be hired as trainers for new members who wish to learn the trade.
Cabinetry & Furniture - $2,000
Electrical Work & Fixtures - $200
Large Fixtures & Supplies - $3,500
Includes salon & barber chairs, sink chairs, dryer, aprons, towels, sterilizers, scissors, rollers, gloves, etc.
Initial Product Supplies - $200
Includes shampoo, conditioner, hair relaxer, etc.
Training Fees - $300
The cost to pay the trainer for 3 months of training.
Monthly Rent - $70

Administration Costs
We work hard to keep our monthly expenses as low as possible. We found an office and store-front property and were able to negotiate to get a great price on a wonderful space with room to our organization to grow. Below are the monthly costs for our office space, which is separate from the training center and shops.
Monthly Rent - $200
Salaries - $400
Salaries for our Executive Director, and an office assistant. This will increase as wages increase, and staff are added.
Office Supplies - $50
Transportation Costs - $50
The cost to visit groups, to check their progress, and offer support when needed.
Food - $100
We provide lunch to those working on site, including trainees, trainers, and employees working in the bakery and shops.
