Margaret & Emma
Empowering the women of Uganda
A word from Fr. Justus Lucas Kiiza. Fr. Kiiza has led Margaret & Emma as chairperson since it's inception in 2020. The women's group at his parish was the first to learn catering, and the first to start their own catering business. Fr. Kiiza has supported their efforts, and hires them for large parish events.
Our mission is to train vulnerable women in marketable skills for them to become financial independent. Since 2021, we have trained women in the following skills:
Catering
110 women learned catering skills. All 110 completed training. Two groups started their own catering businesses and regularly cater large events. Others started small catering businesses in their local communities.
Knitting
10 women trained in knitting, only 3 completed training. Because we only have one knitting machine, we are limited to how many women we can train per class.
Baking
160 women trained in baking. 90 of those completed training. Several women started their own baking business after they completed their training.

Basket Weaving
30 women learned basket weaving in 2025, and all 30 women completed training. Most are now selling their baskets at our crafts center.
Tailoring
32 women trained in tailoring, 13 completed training. 10 graduates started their own tailoring businesses and earn steady income. There are over 100 women on the tailoring class waitlist.
Liquid Soap Making
30 women learned to make liquid soap. All 30 completed training and are now selling soap to their local communities.
* Trainees who dropped out did so due to family obligations or lack of transportation to the training center.
All trainees are required to participate in financial literacy classes in addition to their skills training. We believe financial literacy is a key component in achieving independence.
